The first thing you notice about the DB12 is its updated front end.

To give the DB12 a dash of “measured aggression,” Aston Martin gave the new car a much larger-looking grille. The front end also features a re-worked splitter to improve aerodynamics, and new LED headlamps.

In the styling department, DB12 draws a lot of similarities between the DBS and the outgoing DB11. Chief among those is the strakes along the top of the wheel arches.

These details have been a staple of the DB line for decades, and on the new car mirror the design on the latest DBS.

Inside, Aston has made ample changes to the car as well. Up front, there’s a new infotainment system, based around a 10.25-inch screen that has been paired with a Bowers & Wilkins stereo. Thankfully, the touchscreen hasn’t entirely replace the car’s need for physical buttons, and there are plenty of tactile controls across the cabin.

Power And Performance

The big talking point with the DB12 is the loss of the DB line’s signature V12 engine. Instead, the new car will only be available with a four-liter, twin-turbo V8 that produces 670 hp. Incidentally, that’s actually more powerful than the V12 that was fitted in the DB11 that this model replaces.

In a first for its DB line, Aston Martin has given the DB12 an electronic rear differential, which has been paired with a new suspension system that also features intelligent adaptive dampers. This, coupled with the eight-speed automatic transmission, should make the car “punchier.”

What do you think of the new car’s stylings? In my eye, it looks like a combination of the current DBS and DB11 with a much wider grille. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I was hoping for a little more.
